Beauty in Black: A Display of 18 Dresses from 1950s to 2000s
Considered to be the quintessential piece that completes every woman’s wardrobe, the Little Black Dress has come a long way since it first gained popularity in the 1920s. Debuting at the National Museum this March, Beauty in Black is a showcase of 18 dresses from the 1950s to the 21st century, unveiling works by prominent fashion designers including Cristóbal Balenciaga, Hubert de Givenchy, Karl Lagerfeld and Thierry Mugler. The exhibition also presents pieces that were created in Singapore by leading local fashion designers Benny Ong and Thomas Wee. Comprising acquisitions and donations, these dresses explore the iconic status of the colour black in today’s fashion and the appeal it has retained to both fashionistas and designers alike. Don’t miss this chance to see the creative skills of the designers through a lively survey of the black dresses in a variety of fabrics, styles and shades!
16 Mar – 13 Jun. Open 10am – 8pm daily at The Balcony, Level 2, National Museum of Singapore. Free admission.
