6 Ways To Instant Happiness

  • SumoMe

Pssst! Despite what people may say about working hard and long to find happiness, there are short cuts to happiness. Though these 6 suggestions may not last forever, they still provide happiness enough to last a day. Wipe that frown off your face because happiness is right at your fingertips!

1. Read A Good Book

A house without books is like a room without windows.  ~Heinrich Mann

Books are silent friends that take us out of this world and into another as and when we please. Books lift our spirits, expand our hearts and inspire emotions and thoughts about the world. Take away lessons from an inspirational book or laugh your guts out with a humourous author. Got a good book with you? Spend some time with it and discover places it can take you. None with you? Visit the nearest library or bookshop and take you pick from the list of Man Booker Prize winners and nominees, or graphic novels to stir up your imagination. Be content in your own world!

2. Watch Your Favourite Movie

I could have been a doctor, but there were too many good shows on TV.  ~Jason Love

Who cares if you’ve re-watched Back To the Future II 89 times? There’s no shame in watching an oldie you really love. Like how Sheryl Crow sings it – If it makes you happy, then why the hell are you so sad? Who knows, after seeing that actor lose his perfect teeth, cope with a dysfunctional family and misplace his pet terrapin in the movie (lighten up, it’s only fiction!), you might even realise that your problems aren’t so bad after all.

3. Take A Nap

No day is so bad it can’t be fixed with a nap.  ~Carrie Snow

No point feeling bummed about a problem you can’t solve at the moment. Because you can’t seem to concentrate on anything else besides the problem, the other only alternative is to nap the hibbie jibbies away. People are happier and sometimes we even wake up with good ideas and solutions after a nap. We’ll feel better, look refreshed and even feel a lot more energised to take on storm. So sleep. It’s that simple.

4. Be Bad

That’s not serious; it’s just human.  ~Jerry Kopke

Who’s bad? Yeah, you know it. Break a few rules, do things that you won’t normally do. It’s good to be bad once a while. The cynics call it a cheap thrill, but of course, we know better! It’s a long waited, well deserved source of mini adrenaline which makes you realise that there’s a more to life than living it up like a human robot.  Go forth and be bad ( just don’t hurt anyone along the way).

5. Buy Some happiness

“We make a living by what we do, but we make a life by what we give.” ~ Winston Churchill

Before you gasp in shock at our audacity to even say that money can be happiness, chill.  We meant to buy some happiness and give it away. Go out and get something for you mum or a friend just because you can. There’s no need for a reason to give presents unless you’re some douchebag who clearly hoards mountains and molehills of stuff and refuses to chip in for a Get Well Soon gift and in the end, deems the gift useless because it seems inappropriate for someone unwell to even receive a simple nostalgic game of Tetris!!!  Uhhhh, sorry. An outburst of repressed feelings right there. I should get out and buy myself some fun to relax.

It isn’t what they say about you, it’s what they whisper.  ~Errol Flynn

Everyone’s got a right to live they want to, including yourself. Why bother with other people’s stuff when we’ve got our own mess to handle? Think of the accumulated moments in life we’ve lost just because we poked our noses into someone’s social life or commented too much on someone’s alternative lifestyle. We could have used those moments for better things; we could have helped instead of gossip, lend a hand instead of pointing fingers. Waste not your energy on trivial matters, why get frustrated over something that doesn’t concern you? Be happy, we’ve got a world to save!

It’s strange, I find it really hard to be happy these days. But reading your list, made me happy. Thanks.
