You know the season’s here when you can feel spirits brightening up at work even though productivity is low and people are still smiling. Even your boss manages to let it go when he sees an email blast goes awry. There’s only one reason behind the madness – it’s the magic of Christmas! We’ve got 5 ways to rush you into the Christmas mood if you haven’t already been seized by it! But don’t stop after the 25th. You’ve still got 11 more days of Christmas to revel in. Hope you have fun!

1. Fairy Lights
Bring a little Christmas cheer indoors with decorative fairy lights! Needless to say, lining these lights along beds are becoming a popular sight because well, it really looks whimsical and surreal – the kind of atmosphere Christmas needs.

2. Christmas TV Specials
No matter how much you want this season to be as uncommercialised as possible, you can’t take Christmas out of popular culture. Everybody secretly wants to enjoy Christmas with TV specials and movies. Don’t fight it. Take a break and share some laughs and love instead. So bring out the DVDs and play old TV episodes this week. Here’s 10 to start you off your hunt!
3) How the Grinch Stole Christmas
4) Home Alone
5) The Holiday
9) The Real Ghostbusters: Xmas Marks the Spot
3. Soak Up The Christmas Lights
Ignore the crowds for a moment and enjoy the seasonal lights all over town! Walk the streets with trees decorated with huge ornaments, roads rainbowed with larger than life cookies and metropolitan looking Christmas trees made out of mirrors, lights and who knows what! It may seem commercial at first but hey, ’tis’ the season to be jolly so fa la la la la to all that and appreciate what’s in front of us. See what Australian video blogger Natalie Tran aka communitychannel has this to say about the Christmas lights in Singapore on Lonely Planet!
4. Go Christmas Shopping
I’m one of those who can get a little flustered with Christmas shopping – only because it takes me a long while to find the right gift. It’s economical to select gifts under a given budget, but it’s not wise to blindly choose a gift just because it’s affordable and ‘looks cute’. If you’re good at planning ahead, start shopping early. Otherwise think through your choices and choose wisely. Personalise your gifts with notes and special wrapping paper too!
5. The Season’s Music
Let the music set the mood, simple as that. Old or new, serenade your days with Christmas music from artists you absolutely adore. Just keep in mind that they don’t have to be about Christmas, as long as they remind of you this lovely season. Whatever floats your boat!
Pink Martini – Can You Hear What I Hear?
Dean Martin – Baby It’s Cold Outside
Mariah Carey – All I Want For Christmas Is You
(Pssst, this too) Fluxus Entertainment Artists – All I Want For Christmas is You
Kelly Clarkson – My Grown Up Christmas List
Coldplay – Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas
Hanson – Merry Christmas Baby
U2 – Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)
Belle And Sebastian – Are You Coming Over For Christmas?
The Arcade Fire – Jinglebell Rock
(Just HAD to add this in) Celtic Woman – Carol of the Bells
Vince Guaraldi Trio - Christmas Time Is Here
**Extra and for good measure - The Married Men – 12 Days of Christmas (What Singapore Gave to me)
Happy holidays!
