Born in Germany but currently residing in Australia, Julia Schauenburg is an avid traveller and photographer who – dig this – bought flowers for herself every week in appreciation of herself and documented the gifts on film!
I document the moment of loss, the moment when romance turns into nostalgia. It is ‘a productive way of disaffected (entfremdet) remembering’. (Erich Fromm ‘to have or to be’, p48) the flowers, which are an object of having, represent a state of being. – Julia Schauenburg
Simply called “52 bunches of Flowers I Bought Myself“, this series was recently exhibited at the Damien Minton Gallery in Sydney. Must have been a sight! To our readers living down under, did you guys manage to check it out?
