Inch Chua’s Debut Album, Wallflower

Penny V turned down the lights and laid back to enjoy Inch Chua’s latest gem, Wallflower.

Inch Chua, one of Penny’s favourite local song birds, will be releasing her debut full-length album Saturday, July 17, 2010 and we only have good things to say! Sticking to her usual modus operandi, her album Wallflower, will be available as a free download on her official site.

Wallflower is a beautiful and honest reflection of her thoughts and feelings. Having always enjoyed experimenting, this talented lady dabbles around with the ukulele, piano, keyboards, loops and programming to intensify and compliment her lyrics. Her sound is a heady mix of folksy, acoustic accompaniment, 8-bit electronic embellishments and an emotive voice.

Precocious and introspective, I found myself drawn to her slower tracks such as Hurt, Wallflower and Cold, Conned & Conquered, where her vocals took on a richer and almost ethereal-like quality that melted and eased over her accompaniment. Her uptempo songs such as The Return of The Fat Cat and Rule The World were fun but almost seemed to disrupt the flow of her album.

All in all, inventive and a breath of fresh of air, Inch Chua’s, Wallflower is one that you should take the time to listen to; preferably when you feel the need to close your eyes and let everything be left on the backburner.
