Penny V dishes out the Oscarlicious deets.
Now how about that – after happily receiving her Razzie award at the 30th Annual Golden Raspberry Awards for her role in the rom-com flop, All About Steve, Sandra Bullock has received an Oscar for Best Actress for her role in The Blind Side just 24-hours later at the 82nd Academy Awards
Sandra Bullock played Leigh Anna Tuohy, a surburban mother who takes in a homeless African-American teenager, no questions asked and encourages his talents as a football player. All of us loved The Blind Side and we didn’t have to worry about Sandy not winning this, but it’s a definite first that an actor has won a Razzie and an Oscar in the very same year.
She also received a Razzie with fellow co-star Bradley Cooper for Worst Screen Couple.
Other big winners include The Hurt Locker, which won for Best Picture, Best Film Editing, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, Best Original Screenplay and get this Best Director, who beat out ex-husband James Cameron’s box-office hit, Avatar (which doesn’t come as a surprise really – it only picked up three awards). Kudos to Kathryn Bigelow!
Jeff Bridges won Best Actor for Crazy Heart, while Christoph Waltz walked away with Best Supporting Actor for his role in Inglourious Basterds. Mo’Nique in Precious was his winning counterpart. As we all thought as much, Animated Feature Film winnings went to the buoyantly colourful Up.
Hyped up movies such Nine, Up In The Air and The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus proved to be sleepers. All in all, the awards reflected the fragmented and disengaging platter of 2009 offerings. It was a bad year for Hollywood, too much bells and whistles with little substance. Let’s hope 2010 proves otherwise.
