Giving Up The Gun

Check out our favourite preppie pop-rockers, Vampire Weekend, with their second music video from their latest chart-topping album Contra.

Vampire Weekend were internet stars in 2007 and had some people wondering what the heck was so good about them. Heckled because of their Ivy-league education and pedigree, their influences range from Afro-Caribbean beats to ’70s New Wave strains and dancehall reggae fun.

The music video for “Giving Up the Gun” was directed by The Malloys, whose credits include videos for The White Stripes and Sheryl Crow.  It features a girl named Jenny, who also appeared in the group’s “Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa” video, playing the best game of tennis in her life. Spot the stars, because it features cameos by Joe Jonas of the Jonas Brothers, Jake Gyllenhaal, Lil’ Jon and RZA of the Wu-Tang Clan.

Vampire Weekend frontman Ezra Koenig said, “‘Giving Up the Gun’ just means turning your back on aggression and selfishness. The heroine of the video isn’t an amazing tennis player, but she has heart.”
