MV Tuesday: Straight No Chaser

Straight No ChaserOkay so technically MV Tuesday is a little late, but it’s never too late to spread some Christmas cheer, so it’s still going up. For the month of December, Penny has dug out some of her favourite Christmas tunes that she wants to share with all of you – she’s in a pretty holly-jolly mood as it is.

Today we’re featuring Straight No Chaser, a quirky A capella group who has made waves in mainstream media, with this somewhat dying art-form. It doesn’t hurt that they’re easy on the eyes, as well.

Formed 13 years ago at Indiana University, their name came about after being inspired by a Thelonius Monk composition. They shot to fame 10 years later after a 1998 recording of their rendition The 12 Days of Christmas was posted on Youtube, of which, they were then offered a five-album deal with Atlantic Records by CEO, Craig Kallman. They then released Holiday Spirits in 2008, followed by their EP a year later. Their latest release is another Christmas album, Christmas Cheers, with another non-Christmas album in the pipeline for 2010.

So let’s cut straight to the quick and get you started with that Christmas feeling, brought to you by Straight No Chaser.
