The Berlin Wall, Germany’s poignant symbol of the oppressive regime in the former East German Democratic Republic and a notorious
reminder of the tensions of the Cold War, came down on 9 November 1989.
To celebrate the 20th anniversary and showcase the re-united, re-born and energetic capital of Germany, the German Embassy and the Goethe-Institut Singapore are jointly organising the Berlin Dayz in collaboration with Singaporean and German parners.
What to expect
Berlin Dayz is a series of cultural events taking place in Singapore, including the Opening Gig with DJ Hell @ Zouk, an Open Air concert at the Botanic Gardens and two photographic exhibitions (Stefan Koppelkamm’s Local Time-Ortszeit) and Kai-Olaf Hesse’s Images_in_Berlin, which focus on past and present-day Berlin. There will also be the Fashion Made in Berlin Catwalk, the Ten on the Edge Fashion Exhibition, Street Dance performances featuring Storm and Radikal Forze as well as the Berlin Nights, a series of feature film screenings highlighting Berlin life in the shadow of the Wall.
Bringing the Wall to you
In mid-November, four segments of the Berlin Wall will be unveiled on the eastern bank of Bedok Reservoir, in the vicinity of Temasek Polytechnic. The Berlin Dayz will end with a screening of short films on the theme “My Wall”.
