Runway trends range from the awe-inspiring to the plain weird, but where it comes to real people with real budgets, it’s the practical styles that really cut it.

Trends come and go, but the one thing that remains is its ability to stir emotions like a good TV series. As I drool over images taken fresh from the aisles of fashion shows, I find myself either going “wow!” or “whoa.”

Whether it be beautiful or out of this world, the other thing about runway trends is that they also cost ten bombs. It’s the stuff dreams are made of.

Below are some ways you can aspire to the Fall trends of 2009 but without burning a hole in your pocket, starving yourself and feeling miserable in a beautiful frock – Or is that the whole idea?

Wearing one shoulder dresses draws attention to the face, shoulders and neck. It’s every girl’s must-have. But attempt with caution; not everyone can pull this off.

I’m being honest, I don’t know how I feel about leather pants, if it’s mushrooming all over runways this season I guess it must be acceptable… It’s rumoured to take off 5 pounds off its wearers. Yes, and that’s also if you’re 5”8 and weigh 100 pounds to begin with.

Apparently glow is go this season so chuck your inhibitions aside and put on some bright peony will you? Think pink and even purple.

You know those shoulder pads you frantically ripped out of your mother’s vintage blazer? Retrieve them from your sewing stash and stitch them right back on! Shoulder pads are here to stay – in a big way.

These days if your black dress is little, it’s not good enough. It has to have an edge. Think mesh or asymmetrical slashes. This season, go the extra mile to make a statement with slight touches of Special.

    • Hey Julia! Haha. Yeah perhaps keep the hot pink dresses for the weekend. Alternatively, throw on a black blazer over a hot pink dress – make sure the dress isn’t too short. I think that’s acceptable for Fridays.
